Longtime local businessman Terry Roth announces run for county commissioner

Port Angeles, WA - Terry Roth announced at the May Clallam County Republican Central Committee meeting that he will be a candidate for the District 2 County Commissioner's position.

Roth is a 36-year resident of Clallam County.  During that time, he has lived and worked in all three districts, including Port Angeles, Forks and Sequim. 

As a civilian, Terry has been honored by the US Drug Enforcement Agency, US Customs, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Policy (RCMP) for his work to stop the smuggling of drugs, guns and aliens from entering both countries.

Terry has been the general manager of the Northwest Duty Free Stores for the past 16 years.  He and his wife Maggie also own the currency exchange on the Coho Ferry Dock.

Terry thinks that Clallam County, like the rest of the U.S., is suffering from an economic downturn; devalued dollar; high gas prices; depressed real estate market, and a questionable tourist season.

Terry believes he is the best candidate for the Commissioner's seat.  "As a businessman who has lived in all areas of the county, I know what it takes to make a payroll and understand the three different "personalities" and economic drives that make up the county - giving me a better understanding of the county's needs," he says.

"There are only so many tax dollars available," he says.  "We need to spend it wisely and get the best return on what we spend.  Being a good commissioner is being a good manager.  I've learned from my experience in management."

During his 36 years in the county, Terry has served on numerous committees, worked with youth groups, and raised a family.

Terry is no stranger to county government.  He has been elected twice to serve on the Charter Review Commission.  He is currently President of the Port Angeles Downtown Association (2nd term); and has recently been re-appointed for three years to the PA Forward Committee by the PA City Council.

Terry has been continuously active in veterans' affairs.  "I strive to see that the vet is always treated fairly and receiving their benefits," he says.

Terry lives on Mt. Pleasant Rd. with his wife Maggie.  Between them, they have four adult children and seven - soon to be eight - grandchildren.
